Binevenagh Spatial Master Plan

The Binevenagh Spatial Master Plan is an ambitious project aimed at the comprehensive enhancement and development of outdoor recreation experiences across the Binevenagh and Ballycarton Forest areas.

The primary focus is on creating seamless connections between key natural assets, providing new opportunities for locals and visitors to explore and enjoy these scenic landscapes.

At the heart of the plan is the creation of a new upper walking trail that will connect Ballycarton Forest to the Binevenagh Nature Reserve. This pathway will open up new routes for hikers and nature enthusiasts, offering breathtaking views and unique experiences.

The project also envisions future possibilities for extending the trail to better link Binevenagh with the nearby coastal village of Castlerock, further enriching the area’s outdoor adventure appeal. As part of these developments, upgraded parking facilities will be introduced at Ballycarton, serving as the gateway and starting point of the new trail. These improvements will enhance accessibility and visitor convenience, ensuring a welcoming and well-equipped entry point for those exploring the area.

In addition to new trail developments, the project includes significant improvements to wayfinding systems and signage throughout the forests. These enhancements aim to make navigating the trails easier and more enjoyable, ensuring that visitors can fully immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region.

By improving access and creating a more cohesive recreational environment, the Binevenagh Spatial Master Plan will help establish this area as a premier destination for outdoor activities, fostering sustainable tourism and local engagement.
