The Curly Burn Catchment Care

The Binevenagh and Coastal Lowlands Landscape Partnership Scheme worked on the Curly Burn Catchment Care project with main aim of improving the water quality of the river through the implementation of positive environmental works to benefit the designated features of the SAC, which will include the planting of riparian woodland, increasing field buffers and controlling stock access to the river, upland water management and the removal of invasive species.

In April 2022 a meeting was held with the Binevenagh LPS natural heritage officer and four key landowners along the river from the Dowland Road bridge upstream to discuss work as outlined by the Loughs Agency in December 2021.

This work included the creation of a wet woodland, riparian fencing, installation of drinkers and planting of 3m wide riparian buffers.

All fencing was completed and drinkers installed during winter December 2022. Tree planting was completed by MGS contracts in January 2023 along woodland with assistance from HMP Magilligan inmates.
