Roy Bailie; recipient of CBE for services to economy & opera in Northern Ireland, in the King’s Birthday Honours 2024
The King’s Birthday Honours List celebrates the contribution of well-known personalities, government employees and ordinary people who have served their community. One of which Causeway Coast & Glens Heritage Trust (CCGHT) is proud to have as Chairperson of Binevenagh and Coastal Lowlands Landscape Partnership Scheme.
On release of the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours’ list news, Roy Bailie, who was awarded a CBE for services to the economy and opera in Northern Ireland.
Over a career spanning 60 years, Roy is a highly respected business leader and entrepreneur, previously awarded an OBE for services to printing. The Baird Group, became the fifth biggest and privately owned printing group in the UK, before leading the business in a transformation from print to professional services. Bailie Group now focuses on software development, data analytics and cyber security.
At the Arts Council for Northern Ireland Roy was tasked to set up a new opera company in 2010, Roy has guided NI Opera to deliver productions winning international acclaim.
Roy has also played an invaluable part in promoting Northern Ireland both at home and abroad. He became the first person from Northern Ireland to be appointed to the Court of the Bank of England; was Chair of the NI Tourist Board; NI Chair of the Confederation of British Industry; Director of UTV plc; Chair of the National Trust. He was also appointed to the Court of Directors of the Bank of Ireland and chaired its Audit Committee.
Roy is Chairperson of Binevenagh Coastal Lowlands Landscape Partnership Scheme which aims to celebrate and connect local people with the unique landscape and heritage to build sustainable and resilient communities. Projects are focused around the themes of the natural environment, defence and historic environment, outdoor recreation and the local community.
