Join Causeway Coast & Glens Heritage Trust and Textile artist Angela Turkington of Leopard & Lily to discover the magical story of The Selkie and try your hand at some natural dyeing during our free workshop.

You will discover how Angela brought Kate Murphy’s “The Selkie” story to life by creating a stunning Selkie Cloak as part of the Northword project.  Angela’s Selkie Cloak will also be on display to provide inspiration to participants.

The Selkie Cloak is an experimental and interpretative artwork constructed from hand dyed silk and linen which took 6 months to design and construct. Participants will have the opportunity to try out various natural dyes and techniques before completing their own silk scarf to take home.

This workshop has been organised as part of the Northword Storytagging project and is funded by the “Northern Periphery & Arctic Programme 2014-2020 under the European Regional Development Fund”.

Northword StoryTagging combines traditional storytelling with modern technologies to help increase the visibility and market reach of creative practitioners working in remote areas.

The project is led by Robert Gordon University, Orkney with partners in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland & Russia.
