In February this year, we continued our work to support Leave No Trace ethics and practices for responsible behaviour in our countryside. CCGHT staff, and staff from other organisations, enjoyed a busy day at Carnfunnock Country Park with trainer Stephen, learning about how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly while avoiding harm to our outstanding landscapes and sensitive environments.
Litter, water pollution, the disturbance or damage of sensitive habitats, wildlife and livestock are all too common across our rural countryside – Leave No Trace seeks to tackle these issues and to minimise the environmental and social impacts of human activity and recreation in rural areas.
The seven principals of Leave No Trace are:
- Plan Ahead and Prepare
- Be Considerate of Others
- Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife
- Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
- Leave What You Find
- Dispose of Waste Properly
- Minimise the Effects of Fire
CCGHT hope to be able to offer further LNT training in future – for more information on Leave No Trace visit https://www.leavenotraceireland.org/
